Hasu or lotus in Japanese, is considered to be the perfect plant. Though it grows in a swamp, it is spotlessly clean. It is a symbol of rebirth, creation, prosperity and fortune. The unusual choice of presenting only leaves, and not the lotus flower, makes the pattern much more subdued and universal.
