Ristretto takes its name from the Italian verb ridurre (Italian: to reduce) because it is a reduced, approximately half an espresso. The color palette in Ewa Mróz's painting was similarly reduced, giving it a slightly metaphysical character. The bright elements create an amazing play of light, adding to the work third dimension and the impression that somewhere in the depths of the painting the sun is setting in the fog.
